45 Degree Power Smith Seated Isolateral Pullback Machine

What is it?
The 45 Degree Power Smith Seated Isolateral Pull Back Machine is a versatile strength training machine designed to target the back, glutes, and hamstrings through multiple movements. It can be used for a controlled horizontal pulling movement to strengthen the mid-back, as well as straight leg deadlifts to develop posterior chain strength. The guided Smith system provides a smooth and stable movement path, while the isolateral design allows each side of the body to work independently for improved balance and control.

Primary Muscles Worked

Pull Back Movement:

  • Rhomboids (Middle Back)

  • Rear Deltoids

  • Trapezius (Upper & Middle Back)

  • Latissimus Dorsi (Lats)

  • Biceps (Secondary)

Straight Leg Deadlift Movement:

  • Hamstrings

  • Glutes

  • Lower Back (Erector Spinae)

  • Core (Stabilising)

How to Use
For the Pull Back movement, adjust the seat position and load the desired weight plates. Sit comfortably with your chest supported and feet firmly planted. Grip the handles with your arms extended, then pull the handles towards your body by driving your elbows back and squeezing your shoulder blades together. Slowly return the handles forward under control before repeating.

For Straight Leg Deadlifts, position yourself in front of the machine and grip the handles with your arms extended. Keeping a slight bend in your knees, hinge at your hips and lower your torso while pushing your hips backwards. Drive through your hips and squeeze your glutes to return to the starting position.

Coaching Tips

  • Keep your chest supported and posture controlled during the pullback movement.

  • Drive your elbows back and focus on squeezing your shoulder blades together.

  • For straight leg deadlifts, focus on hinging at the hips rather than squatting down.

  • Keep your back neutral throughout the movement.

  • Move slowly and under control to maximise muscle engagement.

  • Avoid using momentum and focus on feeling the target muscles working.
